RAR
RAR was developed by Eugene Roshal from RarLab. RAR is the only true competitor to the famous Zip archive file type when it comes to popularity.RAR archives can only be created using the WinRAR software which is a commercial non free utility. Opening RAR archives is however free as the uncompressor was given away for free by the RAR creators.
RAR is an efficient compression file type and in many cases performs better than its Zip competitor. RAR also supports unicode and other features that Zip lacks.
